Aristid Szendy

Aristid Szendy, deceased Ukrainian and Hungarian painter (1903 – 1972).

Aristid Szendy was an Ukrainian and a Hungarian painter. He was born in Uzhgorod in 1903. Szendy received his elementary art education under the guidance of the Romanian painter A. Littetskyy.

From 1920 till 1923 Szendy studied under the guidance of the famous Hungarian painter J. Thorma in the colony of the artists in Nagybnya (now – the city of Baia Mare, Romania).  From 1930 till 1931 he studied in the Budapest Academy of Arts. In 1931 Szendy won the cash prize at the competition of painters from Budapest. With that money Szendy moved to Italy. During 1936 – 1937 Szendy taught at the Hungarian College of Art in Rome. He participated in numerous exhibitions in Italy. In the late 1930s he moved to Paris, France and during the Second World War to the United States. Szendy mostly painted still life paintings.  Aristid Szendy died in 1972.
