Since his earliest childhood Isenberg developed his talent for drawing and painting. As a child he always carried a sketchbook with him as he roamed the landscape by his home in Sauerland. He developed his drawing and painting skills at the Community Academy of Art in Darmstadt. His paintings were selected by the Academy for the title page on the in-house Academy magazine. Herbert focused on studying old masters. He was inspired by Doernerund Kurt Wehlte. Initial successes was achieved in 1953 with the two-time award of Düsseldorf newspaper prize. In 1967 he had exhibitions in Frankfurt , Germany with emerging interest in the art trade and public.  First Isenberg was artistically active only in his spare time. From 1970 he decided to do painting as his profession. Since then, he became a successful German artist who is linked in style and subject matter of the art of the old masters he studied. Isenberg uses drawing as scenic resources within the meaning of poetic realism. He became famous among others his series “On the picturesque Rhine”, which was created in 1988 and 1989 and published by the Fürstenberg porcelain manufactory on art collection plate.
