Jean Calogero, Surrealist, deceased. Catania, Italy (1922 –2001)
Jean Calogero was born in Catania, Sicily on August 20, 1922. As a teenager he showed passion for drawing and painting. Calogero attended the Liceo Artistico (college of arts) in the city nearby Etna. He went to France to further develop his studies. In 1947 he attended painting classes at the Ecole Des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France. In 1949 Calogero had his first painting contract with Galerie Hervè. Calogero settled in France making it his second home. In the 1950’s his Parisian exhibitions were followed by American exhibitions in New York and Los Angeles. He then had exhibitions later on in Japan and in Italian art galleries.
In 1957 he received the Great Silver Medal in Paris. In 1959 he was included in the international catalogue of BENEZIT. Calogero exhibited more and more in Italy in the 1970’s. Represented by Arnot Gallery in USA.
Jean Calogero died on November 15th, 2001.
