Jorge Nunez Segura, Catalan artist born in 1932 in Barcelona, Spain

Jorge Nunez Segura was born in 1932 in Barcelona, Spain and belongs to an illustrious family in Barcelona. Jorge’s family is has had a long tradition of being ‘linked’ to the sea as his grandfather was Admiral de Young on the port of Barcelona.   His reputation as an artist is one of the best naval painters of Spain.  Segura spends two to three months every year in England, and his fascination with the English countryside has led to the production of landscapes. Jorge’s time in the Merchant Navy as a merchant Navy Bridge Officer provided him with an intimate knowledge of ships, which he has been able to put on canvas.  Jorge, known as ‘George’ to his friends, gave up a career in the Merchant Navy to pursue painting.  He studied with Sainz de la Maza and then spent five years painting while also working as a commercial artist in an advertising agency there. Back in Barcelona he began working as an illustrator of novels for 15 years for various publishers, including publishing house Bruguera.

He then devoted himself to painting.  His first exhibition of paintings was in Augusta Galleries on the Passeig de Gracia in Barcelona. He had several exhibitions in the Salon Nautico International de Barcelona.  Years later he had exhibitions for five years in the English Court of Diagnal.

Jorge has some of his paintings in the Maritime Museum of Barcelona and the Naval Museum of Madrid. He also has paintings in the Hotel Mediterraneo (Sitges), Seal Stamp and Coin Factory Guinea (Madrid), Headquarters of the Royal National general Poole Lifeboat Institution in Dorset (UK), Luis A. Exgovernador Ferre of Puerto Rico and founder of the Ponce Museum, Radio Onda Cero, Livorno Naval Academy (Italy), Restaurant Seven Gates (Barcelona), as well as in the Arnot Gallery in New York.
