JOY STANLEY RICKETTS RMS HS SLm, MASF, British born 1929.


Having studied art and illustration, Joy Stanley Ricketts graduated from Birmingham College of Art in 1951. She then worked for some years as a set and costume designer for theatre and television before establishing a reputation over thirty years as an equestrian and landscape painter.More recently development has been in the field of miniature painting where her work covers a variety of traditional subjects, regularly including portraiture, wildlife and animal compositions. A number of her paintings are in permanent collections of The Museum of Art in Naples, Florida, The Puppenhasmuseum in Basel and Kay Browning’s museum collection in Kentucky USA. For twenty years she exhibited annually at the Badminton Horse Trials and the Royal Windsor Horse Show, graduating from children’s ponies to the Queen’s famous stallions as her portrait subjects, entailing trips to Europe and the USA.

In 2001 His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales became Patron of the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers (RMS). The Society is delighted to announce that His Royal Highness has generously approved an award scheme to be named “The Prince of Wales Award for Outstanding Miniature Painting”.
