Luigi Cagliani, deceased Italian artist. (Italy 1910- USA 1987)
Luigi Cagliani was born in Italy on September 22, 1910. He died in New York City on November 1987 at 77 years old.
Luigi Cagliani was an Italian Impressionist who worked in the first half of the 20th century. Cagliani was active in Lombardy, which helps explain his penchant for lakeside scenes. He also loved to paint scenes set in Venice. Dino Bonari, a critic involved in the Society of Independent Art in Milan, wrote in 1944 that Cagliani’s paintings were “delicate and moving,” romantic in almost a 19th century sense. Cagliani’s women, Bonari put it, combine fantasy and solidity.
Luigi Cagliani moved to and had his studio in New York City on 57thStreet where he was residing when he died.
