Manfred Sommer, deceased, Spain (May 27, 1933 – October 3, 2007)
Manfred Sommer was born in San Sebastian, Spain in 1933.
Began his career as an informal pupil of Jesus Blasco from whom he received creative support during his younger years. His main influences were Milton Caniff, Frank Robbins and Hugo Pratt.
Sommer painted oil paintings of women in the gardens and was passionate about painting. His great success, however, came in 1981 when he published the comic magazine ‘Frank Cappa’ in the magazine ‘Cimoc’.
Sommer was part of the ambitious though short lived Metropol initiative which published three magzines in the early 1980’s, ‘Metropol’, ‘Mocambo’ and ‘KO comics’. Sommer died in 2007.
