After studying at the Rotterdam Academy, Jan won the ‘Languages Prize’ in 1959. Jan Hovener self describes himself as an artist with a ‘restless nature’. For this reason he led a nomadic life travelling throughout Europe in a mobile camper. One of his paintings is on display at the Paardenrace Museum in York England.
Hovener started his career as a professional artist with Delftware at Royal Delft.
No longer travelling in his mobile campber, Hovener lives and works in The Netherlands.
Jan Hovener is the half brother of Dutch artist, Peter van Berkel.
